The Owners: Jim & Cathy Sue Sagerser

Jim was raised fishing the Kenai River, bush flying and living the Alaska dream.  Jim's parents, Neil & Lucille, were some of the first "homesteaders" in Soldotna in the early '50's. Jim & Cathy Sue own and manage 7 cabins in a peaceful resort setting just outside Soldotna.

Jim's parents, Neil & Lucille Sagerser, were some of the original homesteaders in this area.  Jim and Cathy Sue Sagerser continue the tradition with their own Retreat Center located about 1 mile from the Kenai River bridge just off Funny River Road.  The center is comprised of 7 cabins including the log lodge, a chapel lodge, and a few support buildings.  A Cabin by the Pond, also known as Moose Munch Cabins is located across the street and a 1/2 mile walk to a no-fee, public fishing area on the Kenai River.

Camp Hosts

Hi,  We are Paul and Millie Meinscher, native Texans.  We are excited to be your hosts this summer at A Cabin by the Pond.  We fell in love with the cabins and the Kenai on our first visit to Alaska in 2012 when we met Jim Sagerser.  We lived in the Austin, Texas area until 2013 where we owned an air conditioning/heating business for 32 years.  In 2013 we retired to the New Braunfels/Canyon Lake area of Texas, but we escaped the Texas heat each year by traveling.  We've travel in our RV to different parts of our beautiful country.  We spent our first summer of retirement in Yellowstone National Park area, Glacier National Park, and other areas of the Northwest.  In 2014 we traveled to the South.  We volunteered in the Mount Rogers Recreational Area of Virginia in the Appalachian Mountains and visited New Orleans, Biloxi, Savannah, Charleston, Washington, D.C., and the Great Smoky Mountains.

Along with our travels we enjoy spending time with our family, including 5 grandchildren. Since retirement we have taken up fly fishing and kayaking.  Some of our hobbies include riding our motorcycle, photography, hiking, biking, animal watching and, of course, making new friends.

We can't wait to meet you this summer.    Paul & Millie
