Update as of 2019: The beloved Moose is Loose Bakery was permanently closed at the end of 2019. Here you can enjoy a blog we wrote two years prior, as this was one of our frequent “happy places” where we loved to refer our valued, adoring guests. Okay so maybe we’re a little bias, but can you blame us? Hands down, The Moose is Loose bakery in Soldotna is our top recommended local shop and attraction to send guests to. Located just over a mile from A Cabin by the Pond in the heart of downtown Soldotna, this divine little eatery is a great place to share a cup of coffee while munching on a apple fritter that is out of this solar system! During the summertime this charming & popular local attraction is known to have lines all the way out the door, so be prepared for the fun and save your appetite for the goodies that await.

If the name doesn’t already give it away, this amazing little gem has the “moose” niche completely down. All things moose’y with fun memorabilia and souvenirs that represent the jovial spirit of Soldotna perfectly. While it’s no surprise that this yummy hideaway will be a big treat for the kiddos in your clan, adults of all ages are also guaranteed to have a blast inside of these four sweet-smelling walls. The Moose is Loose has a whimsical and nostalgic way of bringing out the bright-eyed, bushy-tailed kid in all of us!

Fun local finds at The Moose is Loose include hats, t-shirts, hoodies, flannel butt-flapped ONESIES 🙂 (our personal favorite), jammies, socks, and even hilarious themed underwear. For the kitchen, we love all the beautiful wine corks and wine glass adornments, glassware, cutting boards, coffee cups, and shot glasses. There is also some beautiful jewelry, notepads, toys, and awesome Alaskan gifts that visitors can easily bring home.

Now on to the good stuff; the baked goods! Get a variety bakers dozen and reward yourself with more flavor than your taste-buds can handle. For starters, the apple fritters here are pretty legendary. Of course the donuts are baked to perfection, and we love all the seasonal varieties they have such as pumpkin spice during the fall. Scrumptious cupcakes, cookies, iced cookies, and cakes are impossible to ignore. We can’t forget the freshly baked breads and dinner rolls, nom nom nom! Pair your chosen treat with a fresh cup of coffee and some good company.
