The Short 1 Mile Hike That Everyone Visiting The Kenai Must Do

By July 4, 2018 No Comments

As you leave A Cabin by the Pond in Soldotna, Alaska for this hike you’ll head north on the Sterling Highway to the beautiful little mountain town of Cooper Landing, Alaska.

Located about 45 minutes away, take Skilak Lake Loop to the Bear Mountain Trailhead. Here, a hike through the heavily treed forest will lead you up to an awe-inspiring lookout overlooking Skilak Lake in the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge. The hike is steep, but short. Take your time if you aren’t used to hiking such steep inclines.

You’ll have plenty of time once you reach the top to it and soak in the scenery that surrounds you. Remember to bring water and be very bear aware (bear spray is recommended) as several sightings are seen in this area each summer.
